QA. Heavenly Chocolates manufactures and sells quality chocolate…

QA. Heavenly Chocolates manufactures and sells quality chocolate products at its plant and retail
store located in Saratoga Springs, New York. Two years ago, the company developed a web site
and began selling its products over the Internet. Web site sales have exceeded the company’s
expectations, and management is now considering strategies to increase sales even further. To
learn more about the web site customers, a sample of 50 Heavenly Chocolates transactions was
selected from the previous month’s sales. Data showing the day of the week each transaction was
made, the type of browser the customer used, the time spent on the web site, the number of web
pages viewed, and the amount spent by each of the 50 customers are contained in the file
HeavenlyChocolates.

1. Graphical and numerical summaries for the length of time the shopper spends on the web site,
the number of pages viewed, and the mean amount spent per transaction. Please include
histograms and boxplot for each variable, and add detailed statistics including Mean, Standard
Deviation, Median, Mode, Variance, Minimum, Maximum, and Range. Discuss what you learn
about Heavenly Chocolates’ online shoppers from these numerical summaries. (for the
histogram plot: Plot of “Time”: lower group <=5, upper group >=30, bin width=2; Plot of
“Pages Viewed”: 10 bins; Plot of “Amount$”: bin width=20)
2. For each day of week, and for each type of browser: Summarize the frequency and the mean
amount spent per transaction. Discuss the observations you can make about Heavenly
Chocolates’ business based on the day of the week and the type of browser?
3. Develop a scatter chart, and compute the sample correlation coefficient to explore the
relationship between the time spent on the web site vs. the dollar amount spent, as well as web
pages viewed versus the amount spent. Discuss your findings.

QB. Although millions of elephants once roamed across Africa, by the mid-1980s elephant
populations in African nations had been devastated by poaching. Elephants are important to
African ecosystems. In tropical forests, elephants create clearings in the canopy that encourage
new tree growth. In savannas, elephants reduce bush cover to create an environment that is
favorable to browsing and grazing animals. In addition, the seeds of many plant species depend on
passing through an elephant’s digestive tract before germination.

1. Use the geometric mean calculation to find the mean annual change in elephant population for
each country in the 10-year period from 1979 to 1989, 18-year period from 1989 to 2007, and
5-year period from 2007 to 2012. High light those countries that have drop in the population based on the mean annual change. For each of these 3 intervals, list the largest average and
smallest average changes among countries in elephant population.
2. Make a multiple boxplot graph that includes boxplots of the elephant population observations
in each year (1979, 1989, 2007, 2012). Use these boxplots and the results of your analyses in
part 1 above to comment on how the populations of elephants have changed during these time
periods.
